Danish Houses Jens Laugesen and Camilla Staerk Both Fold
Small fashion businesses are the most vulnerable during periods of economic downturn. As if the luxury market itself isn't seeming bleak enough! Two labels founded by Danish designers have now been shuttered. We've just learned that London-based Danish designer Jens Laugesen, known for his minimalist and androgynous designs, has closed his signature label after six years. The news follows last month’s announcement that Danish luxury brand Camilla Staerk was shut by its owner, Danish fashion giant Bestseller. "Today, however, the barriers are different. Women no longer have to chop off their hair or burn their bras, but the media still seems to think they want to look like Barbie. Following the company's bi-annual collection seasons, only 6,000 editions of each issue are printed.
