We Are the Market

WATM: Newly launched bi-annual TAR magazine, featuring a cover story on Benicio del Toro.

Newly launched bi-annual publication TAR offers something different. Tar explores magazines from the perspective of both art form and art object. With contributing photographers such as Juergen Teller and Ryan McGinley, Tar is seen as a collective creative unit, combining worldly creative outlets into one publication. Benecio Del Toro was shot for the cover by Julian Schnabel and showcases Del Toro in a vulnerable and honest perspective.  read more »

Brand Perspective

A&F Quarterly
Lifestyle magazines have told us how to "pick up men," "put on makeup" and "lose that flab" in all manner of ways. Considering the flimsy functionality of this advice, many people really just buy the magazines for the glossy high-end advertisements that make us want to purchase our way into an economic crisis. With this in mind, author and branding specialist Mark Tungate released a collection of premium customer magazines designed and created for luxury brands.

Flash Fiction
Sitting down to a good read just isn't what it used to be. As blogging and web editorial increase in popularity, print publications—let alone a good Hemingway—are no longer an easy sell. Flash Fiction set out to change all of that.

Martin Margiela Is a Fashion Man's Dream

Margiela Vintage
The image of Martin Margiela consists of a never-photographed designer who irreverently sends outré looks down the Paris runway on models shadowed by lab coat-wearing employees. The distilled identity of Margiela's wares, however, is that of a masculine uniform for clued in men working in fashion and other creative industries.

We count several Margiela devotees among our discerning network of tastemakers. They buy new pieces—which are not always distinguishable—from season to season, and opt for dusty-colored button downs, leather jackets, louche suits, sober fisherman-inspired knits, sneakers that look like Eastern Bloc basics and, of course, the ever-popular serialized t-shirts. It comes as no surprise that the Belgian designer draws repeat visits of the cultish variety.  read more »

Horror Story

There's something spooky in the air. Halloween might almost be upon us, but the current horror wave in fashion has nothing to do with seasonal commercial festivities. Ghosts, skulls, and vampires are hot, or shall we say spine-shiveringly cold, on the agenda right now. Browsing through the tradeshow To Be Confirmed in London last month must have been a real shocker for the fainthearted. Where one least expected, demons and other creepy characters played peek-a-boo; Tiger of Sweden gave flimsy chiffon baby-doll dresses (yet another printed chiffon example) an evil twist by decorating them with little skulls. Diesel contributed to the story with rugby-clad, cadaverous zombies.  read more »

Since living back in New York, I’ve spent the last two Christmas and New Years in the City. It was never an option to stay home during this period when I lived in Paris. And I like it better that way. Getaways seemed to just happen and it was a given that at the end of the year, you’d find yourself somewhere, usually warm for me, far away from home.
