H. Lorenzo's Worldly Awareness

H. Lorenzo store

H. Lorenzo is a man revered in the fashion business for his discerning eye, and he has managed to keep his equally discerning Hollywood clientele happy for more than 23 years. What keeps this hard to please crowd coming back to his eponymous store in Los Angeles is Lorenzo's well curated merchandise of established luxury brands alongside relatively unknown, yet promising labels from far-flung locations such as Japan. On a recent buying trip in Tokyo, we caught up with H. Lorenzo for a one-on-one chat about Japanese brands, his eco-concept shop H.L.N.R. and his advice for young designers.

JC Report: You got into Tokyo just a few days ago and have already been making the rounds; what brands have you seen so far?

H. Lorenzo: I've seen Toga, Botanika (by Taishi Nobukuni) and I just came from Patrick Stephan. I'm going to take a look at Aguri Sagimori next, then go to Sister. Tomorrow I will see DressCamp and Dress 33 (by former DressCamp designer Toshikazu Iwaya). I saw Dress 33 in Paris, but I want to see it up close. I've been coming to Tokyo on these intense buying trips for five years now. I research everything beforehand and want to see the up-and-comers.  read more »

Tokyo Label Green Goes on Hold

ON HIATUS: Green

Green, the Japanese label which has been lauded as the best womenswear brand showing in Tokyo as of late, will go on indefinite hiatus as designer Yukiko Ode prepares to have her first child. The final collection will be revealed this week at the S/S '09 show in Tokyo. Green became known globally after being one of the few Japanese labels to be carried at Opening Ceremony this year.

Emerald City

Nest
While Beijing is readying for its big day in the sun (in case you've been living in a cave: the Olympics), Shanghai is already prepping to host the World Expo in 2010. Increased pollution restrictions as well as a ban on horn honking are just part of the latest round in their Environmental Protection Action Plan, but local businesses are already taking note. This Spring saw the opening of Shanghai's first carbon-neutral hotel, URBN, while this past month the city welcomed Nest, its first official eco-boutique.

Very-eco.com, London guide

FutureNatural.com: Green Beauty, Made Easy

FutureNatural.com
One of the primary challenges of "going green," especially in the realm of beauty, is, well, finding the damn stuff. Sure, the not-so-discerning cosmetics customer can troll the bath and body aisle of Whole Foods, but for those of us who want the whole nine (composted) yards—top-of-the-line products, an au naturale ethos and stylish packaging—serious questing is required. Or, it was until FutureNatural.com recently came on the scene.
