Life On The Road

Clemens a/w '08
Clemens en August is a unique, touring concept store. The chic, minimalist collection is sold on tour twice a year in select contemporary art galleries and museums around the world. The roving retail company with a minimalist aesthetic has a travel calendar that reads like a famous rock band's tour stops, and features a roll call of the world's most avant-garde galleries and museums.  read more »

Project No. 8 Sale

For me, there are only two reasons to go to Chinatown's farflung Division Street. One is to chow down on Bacaro's inventive and utterly delicious Italian fare, and the other is to go to Project No. 8—one of my favorite shopping destinations in New York. The store has a wondrous selection of achingly cool clothes from designers such as Kostas Murkudis, Martin Margiela, Sunshine and Shadow, Christian Wijnants and Boudicca that style swans fawn over. Normally, these garbs are quite pricey.  read more »

A Seasonless Era Approaches

Diane von Furstenberg resort '09
With its autumn/winter and spring/summer collection cycles, fashion has always been fast-paced. The result has been an even speedier industry, in which only the most agile labels—typically the blue-chip brands—can compete. A growing number of designers, however, are beginning to question this headlong pace and its relevance to the way we live, instead promoting flexible, seasonless collections.  read more »

96 Shades of Dress

Kostas Murkudis dresses
Last season, Kostas Murkudis integrated technology into his a/w '08 collection in such an elegant—and non-kitschy—manner that it quickly became one of our favorites. Now, the Berlin-based designer is tackling global climate change with equal panache: he's created a seasonless collection called "96 Dresses," wherein each versatile piece can be worn as a slip dress in the summer, or a first-layer garment in the winter.

Since living back in New York, I’ve spent the last two Christmas and New Years in the City. It was never an option to stay home during this period when I lived in Paris. And I like it better that way. Getaways seemed to just happen and it was a given that at the end of the year, you’d find yourself somewhere, usually warm for me, far away from home.
