“While metallics in clothing is frankly quite over, gold is still great in accessories: details on bags, belts, small leather goods, glasses, or jewellery. Check Verdura if you want to splash out, otherwise niche designers such as Pippa Small for vintage and Urban Outfitters for inexpensive. Getting ready for winter, I inevitably have to mention ‘chunky knits’ (Burberry Prorsum, Giles Deacon/DAKS), but fur is big too — both for men and women. But again: think vintage! While new fur is really seen as unethical by most, hardly anyone can deny the great effect a blank mink collar has in combination with a leather bomber (e.g. Comme de Garçon, Belstaff). A dandy’s smoking jacket (or party girl’s, for that matter) comes for women via YSL (the obvious choice), Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, or Strenesse, and, for men, check out Helmut Lang, Dior Homme. If investments are to be made, go for great cashmere, and whether you opt for rock or Euro-chic, quality cashmere (Loro Piana, Ballantyne, Smedley) is a wardrobe essential.”
