Wooden Promise

UK-based Filipino designer Rocio Olbes has quickly gained notice for her environmentally-friendly hardwood handbags crafted from Acacia, a material that has long reigned supreme in the world of luxe furniture. As much objets d'art as bags, Rocio's small purses and clutches range from a natural finish to more embellished exteriors, featuring painted handles, rich leathers, gems and pearls.

Among the brand's hyper-elegant creations are the sleek Theodora with its all-wood body and handle with hand-painted Egyptian Khufu sail design to the fabulously ornate Rainier, which is wrapped in satin and adorned with Swarovski crystals. Assembly-line bags these are not. Each Rocio bag is handcrafted individually in a painstaking process that takes six to eight weeks.

But the best part is that these luxe creations are also sustainable, a detail that Rocio is attentive to—for each Acacia tree that's harvested, three more trees are planted. Beautiful, statement-making and eco-conscious? We're sold.
