Hansengross' Luxe Leather

Hansengross manages to combine the seemingly incompatible: fine leather goods and a socially responsible reputation. The innovative label is quickly gaining attention for their line of men's, women's and travel bags—coupled with a conscience.

The duo behind the label, designer Alexandra Gross and journalist Mikkel Hansen, are motivated by their locally produced pieces. They pay strong attention to style, quality and function—so much so that the label most often makes limited-edition pieces. All of the bag's hardware is made in New York, while the zippers are custom made in Italy and Switzerland. And, if the uniquely shaped bags don't get your attention, the incredibly soft leather will.

While Hansengross is redefining the format of luxury leather bags, we can proudly tote their wares without worrying where they were manufactured. Now, that's something to carry with you.

softest leather ever

I am lucky enough to own both a Hansengross carry-on luggage piece and a handbag. The leather is so soft, and smooth, almost creamy. And the linings are unbelievably beautiful -- white cashmere or houndstooth (among others). I am excited to see what their next line looks like, and it is nice to see that JC report finally caught up and reported on this company.

There were so many photo ops during Claro Rio Summer, here I snap some of my friends and scenesters who attended the events. The shots were captured primarily at Michael Roberts' book signing for Saved (a photo essay on life at the beach in Rio) and at the samba rumbling fete at The Oteros and at Jo de Mer's show at Oscar Neimeyer's first house in Brazil. Enjoy!
