Marvelous Marko Matysik

Marko Matysik is a glamorous figure on the international fashion scene. As contributing beauty editor to Vogue Nippon, Matysik is often spotted backstage or front row in fashion capitols, whipping up fine art sketches and daubing them with glitter, feathers, et al for his beauty spreads. But it's Matysik's line of uber luxe Marko accessories that keeps him squarely in the highest echelon of the industry, and what has made him the subject of fashion legend. In recent seasons, Matysik has treated us to sheared mink headrests (snapped up by Madonna and Donatella at Colette), bullwhip corsets and bungee chord bags, all tres cher and incredibly desirable. A committed ally of luxury from years spent travelling the world in high style as the child of Anglo-German hoteliers, Matysik doesn't design with fixed accessory categories in mind — it's all on a whim, and items are often designed to make luxury travel even more luxurious. For his AW '04 collection he features black velvet chinchilla and Russian sable scarves, Brazilian agate belts, whipsnake cuffs, mink mobius and a group of to-die-for organic knits for babies. Look no further for luxury from an arbitrary explosion. Marko sells at Barneys NY in New York and Tokyo and at Colette in Paris.

There were so many photo ops during Claro Rio Summer, here I snap some of my friends and scenesters who attended the events. The shots were captured primarily at Michael Roberts' book signing for Saved (a photo essay on life at the beach in Rio) and at the samba rumbling fete at The Oteros and at Jo de Mer's show at Oscar Neimeyer's first house in Brazil. Enjoy!
