Milan Fashion Week: Gucci Is Long for Necklaces

Statement necklaces—a trend we've been forecasting since introducing Bea Valdes—dominate the jewelry options for spring. And, as an alternative to chunky face framers, we now herald the arrival of long dangling chains with seemingly random bits and pieces jutting off.

This latter look was on full display yesterday at Gucci. The safari-inspired short shorts, gilded button jackets, frond printed tops and breezy chiffon dresses were all about saleable daytime glamour. But the clothes weren't the only surefire hit. Long gold necklaces—some plain and ropey, others playfully decorated with flat graphic agate—were the right measure for this other slice of the jewelry market, which also serves up a bit of daytime bling.
