Pop-up Shop: A Dark Winter's Tale
December 11th, 2008 | London
London's pop-up shop A Dark Winter's Tale is the answer to fuss-free Christmas shopping. Pop-up stores, restaurants and theatres have been a growing trend in London for the past year now, but none seem so well timed as A Dark Winter's Tale. Working with charity foundations to provide craft and homeware ideas, fashion duo Rachelle Dendle and Bettina Mcllwraith offer the opportunity to purchase politically sound gift ideas.Old English ceramic plates depicting A Dark Winter's Tale were painted by children through East End charity Kids Company, which helps disadvantaged and abused children from the streets and will receive all profits from sales of the plates. Other unique treats include hand-poured candles in crystal ice-buckets, super sized hand-beaded amulets in the style of Tony Duquette, floor cushions crafted from traditional American patchwork quilts, antique hand-blown glass goblets and reclaimed Danish teak chairs.
Dendle is the former senior Creative Director for accessories brand Mimco Rachelle and Mcllwraith'sEast End store Beyond Retro won this year's Best Vintage Store accolade from Time Out magazine, giving the duo fashion-forward savvy inaddition to their good consciences. A Dark Winter's Tale only confirms that these two know what the people want, whether it be old, new, lovely or true.
The shop opens Thursday 11 December for one week.
