Interview: Vivienne Tam, Digital Flower Child
Vivienne Tam recently launched the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam edition in Tokyo's Roppongi district. Joined by HP Senior Vice President Satvij S. Chahil, Tam beamed as Japanese celebrities made themselves cozy with fellow partygoers before catching a show of Tam's spring/summer '09 collection, which featured a silk scarf printed with the same Shakuhaku flower motif that adorns the honored HP "clutch notebook." The cute but powerful little machine won't be available on these shores until February 2009, but in the meanwhile, Tam briefly weighs in on the collaboration for us.
JC Report: What did you think when HP approached you about the project?
Vivienne Tam: I was so excited to create something that is useful and unique. Finally, there is a computer that is not so "manly," but instead has softer curves and feels ergonomically and organically right. Really it should have been done long ago.
JCR: What is on the wallpaper of your home computer?
VT: Flowers! Lots of photographs of flowers. Also, pictures from my travels. I always shuffle through the pictures from all the places I go.
JCR: If you could only live with one gadjet for the rest of your life, what would it be?
VT: My PC is my life. But my phone is a close second.
This interview was conducted by Misha Janette.
