What's hot right now:
I love the revival of '80s fashion and music that has been gathering
steam over the last few years. From the grimy electro of East
London's Shoreditch, with its punked-up indie kids, all bandannas,
bangles, colored leggings (translated to the catwalk by Herve Leger
this season) to camp retro glamour displayed by Emanuel Ungaro, the
'80's are transgendering their way into the mainstream. Who would have
thought the turban would be making a comeback? The greedy glamour of
this generation looked upon the Hollywood golden age of the '40s to
get style inspiration, a trend which is repeating itself with the
pinup making a comeback. High-waisted short shorts from Prada, and
(thank the Lord!) legs are back in! Thank you Chanel! Although this
is not to say everything that's hot right now is also retro. We're
looking back to look forward with the future observed through Star Wars
tinted spectacles, with metals, robotics and space age designs all on
the spring runways, Stella McCartney providing A-line dresses, and
Versace showing us how to wear plastic. Not very high street friendly
but a sign of what to come....I love Retro-Futurism.
